Course Overview
COME JOIN US FOR THE CELEBRATION OF OUR 41st ANNUAL ORTHOPAEDIC AND TRAUMA SEMINAR. We have an outstanding list of speakers from across the country and Mexico. Over the years we have grown from the basement of Hennepin County Medical Center to the Minneapolis Convention Center. Please join us for one of the longest running Orthopaedic courses in the country, with participants from 33 states and two countries. The course is designed to provide participants with an opportunity to interact directly with the proponents and practitioners of new research, knowledge and management techniques related to orthopaedic surgery. There will be an opportunity to discuss clinical information in a case presentation setting. EXPERT OPINIONS AND ADVICE WILL BE GIVEN BY AN OUTSTANDING FACULTY. The workshops will provide the participant with hands-on experience to learn new techniques in orthopaedic surgery.
Course Objectives
Following this program, participants should be able to:
- Identify treatment options available in Lisfranc fractures
- Discuss rearfoot fracture treatment options
- Update complex foot deformities external fixation device
- Relate the impact of hemorrhagic of anemia on fracture healing
- Recognize various treatments for pediatric supracondylar elbow fracture
- Review operative scapular fractures
- Compare and contrast distal radial fracture treatments
- Discuss supracondylar fracture treatment in the adult
- Assess proximal humeral fracture treatment
- Identify distal targeting of the femur
- Discuss differences in starting point nails for treatment of femoral shaft fractures
- Describe and apply intramedullary rodding and/or plating of femoral supracondylar fractures
- Compare and contrast plating versus nailing of tibial fractures
- Critically analyze compartment syndrome treatment
- Update pelvic fracture outcome
- Assess treatment options of various hip fractures
- Identify treatment options of periprosthetic fractures
- Review osteoporosis and the role of the orthopaedic surgeon
- Identify treatment options in revision arthroplasty
- Evaluate joint aspiration to rule out infection
- Discuss anticoagulation in joint replacement
- Assess the use of joint injections
- Review health care reform

The seminar will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 17, 18 and 19, 2011 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, 1301 Second Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minn.

Hennepin County Medical Center is accredited by the Minnesota Medical Association (MMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Cancellation Policy
Registration fee, less a $75 processing charge, is refundable if written cancellation is received by November 1, 2011. No refunds will be available after that date.

Nursing staff are invited to attend the 31st Annual Orthopaedic Nursing in New Concepts and Challenges on November 17-18, 2011 This conference runs concurrently with the 41st Annual Orthopaedic and Trauma Seminar at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
